turbo singing?

Hello,

I pulled the silencer ring out of my turbo the other day. I opened the stock air filter box so I could get an idea of the turbo noise I was going to hear. It made hardly any noise however I could hear a little deeper rumble from the engine sucking air. I was under the impression that I would hear alot of turbo noise. Does it matter that I have stock exhaust? I reved the engine up and tried holding a fast idle, then I put it in gear and brake torqued it and really didn't hear much from the turbo. Is this normal?

Thanks.

Brian

Your not going to hear much with stock exhaust and a stock airbox with paper filter whether or not the cover is off

Go and get yourself a BHAF and straight pipe your exhaust. Then you'll hear that baby sing.

helps also if ya gut the baffle tube in the inlet between the filterbox and the turbo.... theres about two pounds of plastic trying to keep that turbo quiet.

You won't hear it just revving the engine in the driveway,
you have to have it under load, over 10psi boost, driving down the road,
climbing a grade really let's it whistle.

I don't think that ribbed tube help either though. I wonder if anyone makes a smooth tube that can go in its place.
