turbo boost guage? How to

I'd like to check my boost. 24V, 1998.5 truck. They tell me just to install a boost guage. So, I'm looking at parts,. There is an adapter with a 1/8 NPT outlet that you replace one of the bolts on the horn with. Obviously, I can't screw a guage into that..I need to see it while I am going down the road. So,.. Is there some sort of adapter that will let me feed that to a neoprene (or other) air line and get it inside the cab,.. and then another adapter to get the airline back to a 1/8 NPT (or 1/4" for that matter). Not sure where to go with that. I have many guages sitting in the shop, but none will do me any good without getting the air pressure from the intake to the guage. Another point,..I would like to stick with mechanical guages.

Run a 1/8" air brake nylon tube from the adapter bolt on the air horn into the cab and attach to the gaude. Dieselmanor.com has an upgraded kit for the install. I've used one of theirs for 20 years and no problems.

Got it installed. If I get on the throttle (more than my normal driving but not WOT) I am between 10 and 15 lbs. boost..Probably 14 max,. Almost nothing putting around. Is this normal?

That's about normal. I think it has been said you put out about 10 HP per lb of boost. I'm at about 5 lbs at cruising speed, flat road. I have some guidelines written down from a long time ago. Stock engine: Idle-0; cruise @70MPH, no trailer-5-10; cruise @ 70MPH with trailer-7-15; hill-empty-10-20; hill with trailer-15-21.

Replace your HY35 turbo with an HX35. Direct replacement that breaths a little better when towing.

Don't forget your egt's will reflect what the boost gauge is doing, higher boost=higher egt's....

Puke,

Get all gauges = EGT, Boost, Trans and (probably most important) Fuel (lift/pusher pump pressure).

There is a tri-pod gauge mount that replaces the plastic A-pillar trim where you'd install the 3 gauges. Oh, you should be able to find a combination "boost/egt" gauge, this way the fuel and trans temp are stand alone. Otherwise you could purchase an electronic (forget what they're call and who makes them) gauges device you can pretty much mount wherever that will monitor almost anything that you have sensors for.

My personal preference is good old mechanical type gauges.
