Truck wont start when hot? Help

I have a 2000 CTD Auto, 4x4 and it has developed the problem of not starting when it is warm. I will start fine when cold, but when it is warm it will just crank and crank until the lift pump kicks off and then will start. I think that someone said that if it has too much fuel pressure it will not start, and when it is warm it has 17 psi when cranking, but cold it has 4-6 psi. My question is that is the fuel pressure what is keeping it from starting? And if it is what controls when the lift pump comes on or not? Also, any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks All.

Check codes. That's not to much pressure at all. A weak IP will cause that problem. JMO

try unplugging the LP before you try to start it when its hot, if it starts right away it could be too much pressure for a bad VP, with the LP unhooked and it still takes lots of cranking I'd bet on a bad VP

I had the same problem, I put new rubber fuel line from electric pump to filter housing and new hose from filter housing to injection pump, I also through out the factory hose clamps and used new screw style clamps. It works like a charm now.

Had the same problem. I had replaced the fuel pump, added a draw straw, new lines up the to filter, and still had hot-start issues. I checked for codes (none)

I talked to a diesel mechanic who suggested I get some diesel power cetane booster (they sell it at Walmart). Drained half the fuel from the filter, added a good shot of the cleaner and then run the truck about 5 miles hard. It worked for me.

My injectors were dirty. I've been running b-99 (biodiesel) for 2 years with no problems up to now. I've since been told Biodiesel doesn't burn as hot as #2 diesel and can do this to injectors.

Here's an idea (strange for a diesel, I know), but how about... wait to start. Mine does the same thing. Try turning the key on and waiting a second or two then cranking. Works every time for me. There used to be an idiot light on diesels reminding people to do this. I thought it was silly back in the day, not so much now.
