Sounds like the torque converter clutch isn't totally unlocking, tough to fix without tools. Check transmission fluid to make sure it isn't something easy. Other wise I would try to get it in neutral if you need to stop, not very good for the the fluid to keep something slipping all the time.

That's what I thought to is the torque converter wasn't fully disengaging. I can pop it in neutral to stop and when I put it back in drive it snubs the motor. I don't have to drive it until Friday when I go back home

checked the tranny fluid its a little burnt but what do you expect with whats happening to it. the fluid is in the normal range so it must not be fully disengaging. what do I have to do when I get it home to fix it

Most likely needs a new torque converter, sometimes they just lock up. Who knows you could get lucky with a flush and new filter, but I seriously doubt it.

I drove the truck 200 miles and got it home in one piece. Now i'm trying to do some research on the torque converter and some people are telling me that there is a torque converter lock up switch that could have went out causing my problem. I'm not to famliar with the tranny yet but is there one on the truck and where do i find it?

I have seen this problem on a truck myself a couple years back, and read about several more on here lately. Seems to me it could be caused by the lockup solenoid sticking, or an internal converter problem. Haven't heard what any of these cases actually turned out to be though.

Check for any codes. The switch you're talking about might be the "mystery switch", an add on a few folks add to bypass the computer and lockup the torque converter clutch manually. If I recall, my truck threw a code when I put the switch in, because the "transmission relay" in the power distribution box gets jumped out in order for the switch to work at all times. Add on wiring tends to be the first to go (no offense, previous owners maybe?) and if there was a switch put in at one time, it works by grounding the #11 wire (orange?) out of the middle connector of the PCM. If the added wiring is grounded out (even if the switch is removed) it could lead to this situation.

Overdrive, torque converter clutch lockup, and line pressure regulation are all controlled through 3 solenoids on the valve body, so it its possible for one to be sticking. I think the o/d and tcc solenoids come in one package, so you could try a flush with new solenoids/filter etc. to see if that is the problem before you pull the transmission. They bolt onto the exterior of the valvebody, so not a very big job. Good luck.
