Trip mileage computer
Trip mileage computer
We just returned from our cross country trip, empty, not hauling. On I-80, 75 mph, the computer said we were getting 20.5 to 21.1. Would be very happy with that, but when we calculated mileage based on miles driven between fill-ups, the real mileage was only around 17.2 to 18.9, something like that.
What's the deal with the computer? Can it be calibrated? It's surely optimistic! We are all stock except for 4" exhaust, and we're using the stratapore air filter from Geno's.
Anyone else have this problem? Is this common for these computers?

I think the older the vehicle, the more inaccurate they are.
Mine 2002 is about 2-3mpg off, but the 2003 and 2004 guys say their's are pretty close, if not dead on.
No way to calibrate it that I know of.

old way
I have a 2000 and my computer always is about 2 mpg high, but doing the math the old way tells the real truth, keep her under 70mph,and she gets great mpg, over that she starts drinking it good.
I think that the computers are also kindof high. I am getting 650-750 miles on a tank, so I think I am getting around 20mpg. Hard to tell because I have a fuel tank at home that I fill from, no sales tax on FARM fuel, even if it is clear
