Transmission Rebuild HELP PLZ!!!!

i have never rebuilt a transmission but i figured id give it a try cause i broke my input shaft. Well anyways i got the seals in the pistons and i can't get the piston to drop into place cause the seals are like inverted.
The book says to use thin plastic but never use metal. i have tried a cut up pop bottle and what not ive lubed them up with petrolium jelly and i still cant get them PLZ HELP if you know of any tricks or anything to use!!!!!!!!!

use plastic wire ties for compressors and they just slide in.

i got it in tonight not good. reverse works perfect. 1st gear worked for about a mile started slipping and i lost all forward gears. pretty sure one of the seals is messed up not sure what i did wrong cause i really took my time with all the seals. If anyone lives in des moines/grimes area and knows how to pull transmissions i could use a hand i have a heated garage and a lift.
