Transmission question

I have a 99 1 ton dually with the A618 transmission. I have 34000 miles on the rebuild. You name it, they replaced it. They upgraded many of the parts. First, when shifting from 1st to 2nd, at around 15 mph it seems to jump back and forth until i reach a higher speed or give it more gas. Doesn't do it if i am on the gas a little harder from the start. It did do this even before the rebuild. Second, when it seems to get cold outside (10 degrees or so), it does not always shift down to first from a complete stop. If i am in drive it wants to take off in drive. If i manually shift it to first, sometimes it goes to first and sometimes only to second. After the truck sits for an hour or so, it will shift perfect. Naturally i am 3000 miles over my warranty miles. I am looking for some ideas that i could try to fix it. Could this possibly be a TPS problem? Thank for the help guys.

When you had your tranny upgraded/rebuilt did you have them completely remove the stock 47re tranny?

A 1999 truck will have a 47RE. His shifting problem may be due to the alternator cable issue (though that was more LU clutch) or it may simply be a matter of the truck learning the driving style. Resetting the APPS (TPS) may cure it, but it may also be sticking/faulty solenoids in the trans. This would be particularly true if they were not replaced at the rebuild point.

The governor presure solenoid is sticking ever so slightly. Some one said there is a bulletin from Chrysler updating the solenoid. I am not an advocate of snake oils being added to ATF+4 for reasons like this issue. The no cold downshift may be another indication of sticky Sol. As little a 3 psi governor pressure at stop will keep from starting in low.

I figured it's something i could not fix. I was just crossing my fingers that i would be able too. I think it is a solenoid issue also. I will bring it back to the shop and have them take a look. Thanks for the help guys. It's great to have people that want to help.

If the shop is willing to guarantee the rebuild, you should ask them to chip in on the cost. Otherwise, this IS something you can fix, if you have the average set of hand tools and skill enough to get into the trans pan. This might save you a bundle of cash... or you may feel better just having them do it, regardless of cost.

If they are not willing to help after only 3000 miles over warranty give Dave Goerend a call, he will help you out. That guy is amazing.
