Transmission has no low end power in D, but does in 1
I've got a relative w/ an 01' 24 Valve auto that is having an issue with low end power in 1st gear. Since it's an 01' I believe that's the 47re, correct me if I'm wrong. The problem is that when the transmission is in drive it seems the truck has virtually no power what so ever when starting out from a dead stop or trying to move around in 1st gear. It will shift through 1st though, and once it gets into 2nd it seems to be perfectly fine and there's no other problem in any other gear. If you down shift it manually into first then it seems to have it's normal amount of power and there isn't an issue. Fluid level looks good, I'm not personally sure what the color of the fluid is but I would suspect it's of a passing standard, the owner is mechanically inclined enough to know when it's bad. The truck only has about 45k miles on it, and has spent 90% of it's life towing a 25ft' or so travel trailer. I wouldn't say a stressful life, but it's definitely been worked, if any of this helps.
Any takers as to what may be the issue?
Thanks.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Sounds like in limp mode. this starts in 3rd gear unless pull into low. Not good to operate in this condition. COMPLETE FAILURE is very near.
Should check for fault codes. Three key on's and read odometer.
Most likely solenoid sticking. very common. Do not put on road for another mile and do not stress tranny getting to shop.
