I have a 241 transfer case and it looks like fluid is leaking out of a small plate on the side of it. Is this an inspection plate and is it common or should I be worried? (@2x3)

I've been hearing some popping but I'm still blaming the track bar but this leak is still in the back of my mind...

Could this be a PTO cover plate? I don't have a PTO but just thinking.

 

I learned something new about my truck today. I have the 241HD transfer case that has PTO capabilities and I also have a Dana 80 in the rear.

The ATF must have come from somewhere else because it wasn't from that plate and I couldn't find an obvious leak. Maybe it blew out of the vent but I haven't been towing so who knows. Oh well, she goes in tomorrow for another front end rebuild and I'll have them give the tranny a good lookover for leaks.

 

Mine leaks a little at the rear seal and then eventually stops. I think its an overflow thing that settles in once the fluid finds its level. A fluid check is always good so I'm not losing a significant amount.

And yes, the 241HD has a PTO plate and a Dana 80 was standard in the 6-speeds. Yours may have been special ordered or has an upgraded trailer tow package IIRC.
