Transfer Case-2500 same as 3500?

I recently ran onto a 2500 that is missing a transfer case (thieves stole it while the truck was setting on a car lot!!), the owner of the lot suggested a salvage 3500 he had might fit it? My question, will it fit. I do know the 2001 2500 is a six speed, unknown the year model of the 3500.

Should work with no problem, just make sure the xfer case is from the same tranny that you have i.e. auto or manual. I dont think it matters if its nv4500 or nv5600 they should have the same output shaft & spline count. The auto is different though.

Hopefully someone else will chime in confirm what I've said.

I believe the 241DHD and 241 DLD (standard) are not interchangable...... different sized shafts.
All 3500's came with heavy duty....241 DHD. 2500's could be either one, up till 2002.

Good point...I think its just the transfer case output shaft thats different. DHD being larger. So the driveshaft may be an issue. Both should still bolt up to the tranny as long as they're both off a manual.

Yes..5 and 6 speeds are interchangable.

'Beemeron2' - The 3500 needs to be a 2nd gen also.
Have heard of slight differences in length between 2nd Gens and 03's or later.... even on same models.

DLD is shorter than the DHD. The 3rd gens have the 271 or 273 (electric shift), those will also bolt in. Probably need to have shafts shortened for it to work, but its a beefier t-case.
