"tranny Hunting"

ok so i had a problem with my truck...going about 45-60 the truck would seem to hop up 200-300 rmp for 2 sec. than jump back down to normal...until you change your speed...someone here told me to wrap aluminum foil around the brown/tan wire that runs of the alt....and IT WORKED...first id like to say, shovelhead, you have no idea how much i love you for telling me this.

second DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS WORKED?!!?!? WHAT DOES THAT WIRE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING TRANNY WISE??

It's like wearing a tinfoil beanie to keep those black helicopters from reading your brain waves........

I guess it must have something to do with RadioFrequencyInterference and all the computer contols.
I'll be installing a separate ground from the engine to the chassis this weekend.

Thanks, but I was just passing on info I gleaned from searching the site for a related thread.
BTW, I also cleaned the battery terminals on BOTH batteries which is also a recommended fix.

That is too cool! We have been waiting for someone to try JUST that when they have the problem. Most guys will do the ground wires & tin foil and we never know what worked. Keep playing with it and take the tin foil off and see if you can get it to repeat.

Mine was doing that too. I tried all the plug cleaning and tinfoil but what finally worked is an APPS reset.
in a nutshell disconnect the battery for at least 1/2 an hr. (I turned on ign while disco to drain anys caps)
turn off key, reconnect batts.
turn key to run, not start and slowly and evenly put the accelerator to the floor and back.
turn key off
start truck and see if it's better.

There are better discriptions on this forums but thats the readers digest version.

Weird, the tin foil thing didn't work huh. I guess we are back to thinking this is a problem that requires several things to fix. Good news is they are all cheap.

My 99 gasser did that. I changed the gov press solenoid and tranducer and it went away. Perhaps the tin foil thing is a bandaid for a weak solenoild or something. It sounds like many different inputs can affect that signal to the gov press stuff.
