Transmission "hunting"

A friend of mine has a '98 / auto with a serious locking in / out issue with the tranny; No particular situation (hot/cold), the tranny jumps in and out of OD all the time.

I recommended doing the APPS reset, and cleaning the battery terminals - no luck; Are there other grounds to clean? Where are they?

Any other ideas? He needs to get his truck back on the road ASAP!

You might try shielding the OD solenoid wire - OR/BR on the '98, IIRC

I installed a 3-position switch to control both the TC & OD solenoids at will.

OR / BR = Orange / Brown?

.....how about other sources of noise, alternator, loosened / rusted grounds?

I'd check all the grounds, mine did the same thing, tightened the battery -'s and the ground wire, hasn't happened since.

arent we in the 12v forums?theres no apps is there?Is the tach bouncing around?Mine would go in and out of overdrive on my 97.It was the crank sensor,I took it off ,cleaned it and cleaned around the balancer.Then I regapped it when I installed it again to proper clearance.The truck never worked better.Clean the connectors really good too
