Tranny hunting

I have a 98, 24 valve, DRW, 4X4 that has suddenlt begun to 'hunt' between 3rd gear and overdrive, (or lockup and unlocked), when traveling at a steady 38 to 40 mph.

Any ideas of what I might look for?

I had the same problem that started intermittantly and than got worse over time. After the first trip to the dealer they reflashed the ECM with a factory update (they said its very common in early 24V) All was ok for about 2 weeks then hunting(TC lockup) began again this time at all different speeds many trips to the dealer resulted in them changing the output sensor on the trans and all ok for 2 months now Check if your truck has the ECM update DC can tell from the VIN
Good luck

I see your post about trannies, and want to be on the list if you are going to sell it.

chaikwa; this is a common problem caused by electrical noise spikes. It can be temporairly fixed by cleaning battery terminals and electrical grounds. Call DTT 1 866 504 4002, they will give you good advice and they sell a noise filter for about $40 which usually fixes the problem.
