tranny fluid leak fix ... teflon tape?

traced a tranny fluid leak to the engine-mounted cooler
supply fitting. If a "simple" snug-up doesn't do it, would
it be ok to use some teflon tape on the fitting? Just
wondering what happens if any bits break free in the
system.

Thanks,
Lowell

I prefer using just enough "Pipe-Dope" to fill the threads.

Mine was leaking around my temperature probe.
Took the probe out and saw the teflon tape that the installer had used had turned into crispy flakes of some white material,
the leak started a couple months after installation.

Cleaned all that out and put a coat of brown RTV on the threads.
Let it sit for a bit, then reassembled, and no leaks as of yet, a couple months later.

Never use Teflon tape on any hydraulic type fitting. It will flake off and clog a small orifice somewhere.

Try Permatex® High Performance Thread Sealant.

That might be what I used.

I'll have to check the tube.

If it's the "fitting" that screws into the heat exchanger, yes, you can use sealer on that. If it's the line nut, or a leak from the line flare fitting, NO.

Thanks, Dodgenstein. That's exactly what I was wondering.

Don't know yet if it's the fitting or the flare. If anyone's attacked
this area, did you have to take off the tire and inner fender
liner to get there, or did a crow's foot wrench work?

Thanks again, everybody.
