Tranny Aux Cooler Lines

My aux cooler lines are leaking at the quick-connect fittings underneath the truck. I believe the fittings also act as a check valve as well. The dealer says it will cost $600 to replace the hoses. $100 per hose (2), plus labor. Has anyone done this themselves with aftermarket parts? Also, is the check valve really needed? I'm pretty handy but, don't want to cut the quick-connects out if their required.

Thanks!

I had a trans shop replace mine while it was in there for a fluid change. It was a hair under $300 for the whole thing and the next day they called back and refunded me $100 cause they figured the bill up wrong. So you can say I paid $200 for a fluid change and new lines.

Mine leaked also. I couldn't see spending that much for a rubber hose so I carefully cut off the old fitting with a cutoff wheel and put a clamp on it. No leaks since and that has been almost a year and a half. Local trans shop told me they just replace the lines with oil rated lines and use clamps so that's why i thought I would give it a try. I would have replaced the whole line but you can't get to both ends without a lot of work.

I had one that came off at a R/R crossing which in turn puked the fluid out on the ground. I replaced the expensive lines with some oil rated lines about 2 years ago with no issues. About $15 worth.

The check valve is used to prevent trans fluid draining from torque convertor when parked. The lines are pricey I changed them on my old truck because they were rubbing on frame and started leaking. Make sure the new ones do not do the same.
