Torq Specs for Lugs?
Re:Torq Specs for Lugs?
I always torque to 100 pounds. I first bought the truck in late feb. of 02. It had new rims on it from the dealer because the original owner had after market rims on it and wanted to put them on his 01 that he traded it for. Evidently the hubs on the 98 are bigger than those on a 01 so the factory rims of the one he traded for could not go on the 98. So the dealer put aftermarket rims on it. That fall I was washing it and noticed a lugg nut missing. Upon further inspection one more was loose. I thought ok I still have 6 good ones so I limped 8 miles to the tire shop and they put it up on the lift right away and found a bunch more that fell off as soon as they touched them with the socket. The studs where just snapped off clean. After all the broken and finger tight ones where removed only two where actualy tite and they where right next to each other
. When they found the studs they where arounf $20 each and I whent ahead and replaced the other two for peice of mind. I now check the torque religously. Ive know people that have lost tires going down the road before and it aint perty.

The factory service manual for the '02 says 135 ft/lbs for 2500s, 145 ft/lbs for 3500s. Re-tighten after 100 and 500 miles. It also says for the rear wheels on 3500s to put two drops of oil on the "interface of the nut/washer" before installing, and to tighten according to the numbered sequence, although I can't seem to find the numbered sequence. Might be in the owner's manual.

On a 2002 2500 4x4 with aluminum wheels, what is the correct ft. lbs for the lug nuts? [/quote] 135 same as the 03's. The 3500's are 145.

The two drops of oil are only for duallys; 3500 srw's don't get oil.
The number sequence is just opposites; start anywhere, then go to the opposite lug. Then find the next one you haven't done yet, as far as possible away. When you've done this 8 times, you're done!

No such thing, officially, in '02 as a SRW 3500.
