Thinking about my second CTD

The wife and I were discussing selling the suburban and getting another CTD

My dilemma is standard or auto when I first got into this I thought I had messed up by getting a auto on my first truck.

But as I follow the forums here on DTR and others it seems the bottom line is if you add power you will need to either build the auto $3k+ or re clutch the std $3k+

She can not drive std But I daily drive in traffic

So I am flipping a coin unless you can convince me otherwise

May go with third gen as well to tap into some warranty as well if I can find one that has never had boxes on it

Well I might have gotten my clutch price a little off maybe $1500 for a good clutch.

I paid under $1500 for my South Bend, including an upgraded pilot bearing and machining the flywheel out and such.

Honestly, I'd get an auto in your case. I love my 6-speed, but one summer in Tampa traffic really made me appreciate just how convenient an auto is.

If the price of a full-boogie auto trans makes you balk, you can get good upgrades for much less cost by just doing a torque converter and valve body upgrade. This will be enough to hold mild power upgrades, from what I hear from the auto tranny guys.

I'd look for a clean 04 with an auto.

I have no regrets about buying a 99 with an auto, even after driving this AND my dad's 01 with a 6 speed. I really really wanted a 5 speed, but eventually settled. I couldn't be happier, unless it had a little more work done so I could start modding already

I know the stock auto kinda sucks, but I still don't regret buying it. I wanted a truck with an auto. Manual just gets too old.

162K on my stock auto and still going strong.... I've had it bombed for the past 40K and it hasn't missed a beat...I just can't tow with the box turned on (slips the converter). I'd buy another auto in a heartbeat.
