Think of doing a Transmission Swap

I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 quadcab 4x4 with a cummins 24 valve. Right now it is a automatic and im having some problems with my transmission. So i was think about doing a transmission swap. i would like to make it a standard and was wondering if the NV5600 trans would work. i made a list of what mods
i would have to do:
cut hole in tunnel for shifter
add flywheel, clutch, pilot bearing
clutch pedal and master
is there anything else im missing and would everything else bolt up like the transfer case and drive shafts?

Sounds like you got a good list. My question is, why you changing to a manual trans, Towing heavy? I thought I would hate a automatic, till Dave goerends hooked me and I wouldn't drive a manual now unless I was towing really heavy.

you may need to switch the PCM, better off buying a donor truck, i am thinking of doing the same swap, because I lost OD a week ago, and I cant afford the goerends setup

I hate automatics. Most everything I've ever had has been straight shift. I'd convert the 85 Mercedes SD if I had the time. It will be a bummer when I get too old to shift say if/when my hip wears out.

finally got a friend to answer his phone. the 5spd is 1" shorter so add 1 the rear and 1 off the front, input shaft and bearing has to be changed on the transfer case, tranny mount changed and jumper neutral safety switch. pcm and cross member are the same. add the clutch pedel assembly.

You don't want the 5 speed. Get the 6 speed. The five speed has problems with the 5th gear falling off. You'll also need the cup holder that fits around the shifter as your built in fold out holder will no longer work. Use that space for storage or something.

Can't remember but, the driveshaft may be a differant length. If so, get the drive shaft from the truck the tranny came from.
