I have the front of my truck apart right now, and among other things as changing the water pump and thermostat.
What temperature thermostat should I get? Does it make a difference?
I see options for a 180 and 195.
I live in Missouri; we do get some summer heat touching the 100F mark, and some winter cold just below 0F; but neither of those conditions last for more than a couple weeks.
I use my truck just for transportation, and don't tow heavy very often.
it came with the 190 so that is definitely fine.
I have used the 180 as well and noticed no difference in mileage or performance just less swinging of the temp gauge while driving.
So either will work but it did come with the 190
190 is what is specified. I'm down in Texas with a 190 thermostat, not a single issue. IMO, keeping your radiator clean would be a worthwhile task so it it more efficient at heat transfer.
180 massacred my fuel efficiency. I'd never run one again. Lost something like 3-4mpg. Hand calculated tank to tank several times with numbers like that and plopped a cheapo napa 190 and it went back to "normal".
I picked up a 190 degree one from NAPA after reading this.
FYI. I'm repairing a truck that was crashed into by an un-insured driver...... Figured since I have the front of the truck removed, good time to do some maintenance,
