Thermostat

My check gauges light flicked on and off a couple of times when I started up today, then went off. I noticed the engine temp gauge was dead - below 140 and not moving at all. I had noticed that my fuel economy was sucking on recent rides. There's a Cummins not to far away so I'll get the actual Cummins thermostat, not an aftermarket as I read they aren't good.

Anyplace I can find instructions/pictures for replacement?

The thermostat is right under where the upper radiator hose attaches to the cylinder head. It's two 10mm bolts I think. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, because all this is off the top of my head.

Changing the thermostat won't do anything about the check engine light though. It's only going to help your engine get up to operating temperature. You might want to see if you can see if any codes have been set.

I will check for codes since I have a reader, but it has done this before without the thermostat issue. I wondered if it was because on cold days the oil pressure is too high until it warms up? That might be lame-**** logic!

Thanks for the location/mounting tip.

Just make sure you get the new one in right side up and don't over torque the two bolts. Just snug 'em up and check them a couple days after driving it up to temp.

The O/P was talking about the check GAUGES light not the check ENGINE light.
