Can you run a thermostat that is cooler than 190 degress

 

Yes! I have been running the 180 degree 'stat for 2 years with no issues. Like the "extra" room on temp when towing. Cummins P/N's are 3935811, 3954194, 3967195. have parts man double check.

 

Ditto .. I'm running a 185 I got from a Dodge dealer. Engine runs at 190 all day even in the Arizona heat.

 

Not sure what T'stat my truck has, temp is usually just below the 190 mark.
If it is HOT, like AZ, and am pushing it, it will go just above 190, and the fan kicks in, temp eases back to the 190.

 

I'm not sure what thermostat is in my truck as well. But... it runs @ 190* coolant temps pretty much all the time. I have not towed with it yet though to see how that effects it.

from all the reading i have done cooler isnt necessarily better, diesels will get better mpgs with a hotter t-stat, i currently have the 190. i had the stock 180, the 190 cycles about half as much as the 180 did.
