testing for boost leaks
testing for boost leaks
ok guys i have read a couple threads on here about this subject. i just wanted to ask what the best way to test the intake system for leaks. my problem that is my truck feels sluggesh and i hear a big whoosh sound when i get on the throttle.
the way I did it on my Ford was fab up a rubber coupler with a PVC plug on the end, with an adapter for an air hose(Home Depot or Lowes) and attach it to your intake side of the turbo (the same side as you attach your air filter), and slowly add air pressure until you hear air wooshing. spray soapy water around your turbo and boots. I used a portable air pump for my air, because I dont have access to shop air. PM me if you need any more details. here's a pic:

I had the same problem with boost leak, max boost of 11# at 2500rpm, this at 8Pm travelled 800mi that way. I made my adapter at Home Depot in Kileen TX. from a 4" PVC cap, a rubber 4" coupler, two hose clamps and used a step drill to thread the air coupler in to the cap, cost about $15. I added pics in my gallery.
