Swapping VP44 - auto vs 6 speed

Any problems with replacing a VP44 on an automatic with one from a 6 speed?

I think u r o.k. the 6 speed i think has the h.o. pump which i also think can still be used on an s.o. but not vise versa.........if u have the pump # u can easily cross reference it to see if it interchanges.

I think that it works either way with the VPs(I'm only 90% on that),if you try and swap engines you need an automatic engine for an automatic, but automatic engine works fine in a stick.(way I understand it)

im pretty sure you can only put the s.o pump on the h.o motor not the other way around. h.o pump on the s.o motor

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Just put the correct one on and you don't have to worry. Cores become a issue if buying pump.

Maybe I should provide more detail... I just bought my first diesel truck 2 weeks ago and I've discovered it needs an IP but I gotta have one CHEAP. I found a GREAT deal on one that's practically brand new from a 6 speed truck. I just need to know if it will work.

Yes, it will work. Only difference is it puts out a little bit more fuel, and who would complain about that? You can even run the Freightliner Yard Mule 5.9 Cummins pumps on Dodge trucks - and it means a good 40-50hp.

15x is standard output, 16x is 5-speed pump and 17x is the 6spd pump, I'm pretty sure. Back before the "hot rod vp44's", guys with autos were putting the 17x pumps in their trucks for the performance gains.

027 is standard output VP pump (235 HP)

028 is the stock high output VP (245 HP)

029 is the VP for the 275HP ISB application's

As far as i know, you can only swap a 027 pump for a 028. I dont think it will work the other way around. AND i dont know why someone would want the HO 028 pump in the first place.....the 027 has more HP potential.

I have also been told by a pump shop that the 029 will not work either.....they said they get issues with the engine staring but will only idle. OR not start at all.
