comparing 2 alternators

Looking for a high output alternator for my truck, this is based on another thread. Have 2 companies in mind:

1) $399 plus shipping...Mean-Green Starters & Alternators www.mean-green.com p/n MG1330 – 2001 Dodge Ram 5.9L diesel - 200 A, 100 @ idle, 2 yr warranty ... didn't mention extra cable or anything

2) $299, $35 cable, $22 shipping - 220 A, 100 @ idle, 2 yr warranty
www.4alterstart.com/alternators ... said I'd need a cable to run from Alt to Battery, so I don't know if this is direct drop in swap??

I'm really in a lurch about which to get so I have a few questions (I've called up both manufacturs and didn't get much out of either as to what to look for or what makes their product better than the competitors...

a) What do we look for in terms of a HO alternator for a diesel truck?...I don't really tow heavy...but I want a good relaible high output alternator to power any devices I might add and to run the ones I have very easily...plus I'm getting electric fans put in and replacing the alternator is a pain after the fan shroud is in...additionally the elecric fans, plus the FASS and the grid heaters can all benefit from the HO alternator upgrade.

b) How can the designs be different? The two above alternators are similar (very close in output it seems), what can differentiate them, in otherwords how do you compare or what can you compare with them to tell which one is better? The guy at mean-green mentioned the power curve could be different but he didn't really explain it? I suppose it means that on a diesel you may want the extra amps but both seem to have around 100A idle. The guy from alterstart mentioned that I have to get a cable to run from the alt to the battery and that this goes in place of the present stock hookup?? what's the deal with that? he wasn't really clear on his answer. Then I heard the from a buddy that the Meen-green doesn't come with any wire and just hooks up as a drop in, a few bolts and unhook and re-hook the stock harness and that's it? How can that be, they are both HO units, why the discrepancy in hooking them up..and how they are designed and operate?

c) Anything I am missing or should ask or find out before I order an HO alternator upgrade? What other important aspects of HO alternators would I need to know before I commit to buying one?

d) Are there any other brands/vendors of HO units I am possibly missing? The above two are the ones I know of thus far...but you gus may know more.

Thanks for the help...appreciate it Sorry about the long post

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
There are other threads on high output alternators. Several additional sources are listed. At least two vendoers are offering 160 amp for a little over $150 and a 200 for less that $250. Both are new with no core and bolt directly in. Heavier wire is recomended.
I ran a short wire too right side battery. Now the electrons are flowing in a circle and generating even more power. Sort of like putting cow magnets on fuel lines and charging the fuel for more power. HA!
