Surging when towing
When I am pulling a 30' gooseneck loaded or empty or for that matter when I'm not hooked to anything the truck when you get into the throttle it gets this wierd surging. All my local people told me that my nctors were bad so put DDP 110's in and now have alot more power but same problem. It used to do this before and I would lose boost and power, but now I don't seem to lose any boost but since this started I have lost about 4 or 5 mi to gal and my cab moniter doesn't mach when I fill up and check it. I used the key trick and pulled up 0500, 1693, 0217 I don't know what these mean. I starting to think that my vp44 is on it's way out?

No one else has had this problem? This truck gets about 1000 mi. a week and the diesel bill is getting out of hand. Besides the fact that I'm afraid the truck is going to leave me stranded. Any help would be appreciated.

What has the outside temp been lately where you live?? The reason i ask is because you could be expieriencing timing shudder from the edge box coupled with the large injectors. I see you are in Ohio and it probably fairly cold. My truck did the same thig as you describe, when its cold out, if i stepped on the throttle it would buck and fart and surge. I did some research and fould out some interesting info. Do you have a winter cover on it? If you dont, cut a large peice of cardboard and stick it between the intercooler and radiator. These trucks run alot better warm then they do cold. Another thing i did was clean the intake temp sensor with some carb cleaner, over time this collects soot and can cause improper temp readings in the intake. This sensor determines in part how much fuel is added, and if it is not reading the temp acurately, it could be adding more fuel then needed and contributing to you bad MPG. The cardboard and intake sensor cleaning solved my problem Here is a link https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=179449

mine does the same thing i think does yours start surging just when you roll into it or your pulling a hill and the higher you set the edge box the worse it gets but mine won't surge with the box off my truck if your going through a small town say 35mph and you slow for some reason it will pull it self at idle but when you go to pull it off idle and accelerate it sometime start shaking sometimes it violent and sometime you can get it to pull off idle smooth is this timing surge or an apps problem

I could be wrong but I highly doubt changing the apps is going to help, as the fault codes listed are not apps related. if it was me I'd clear the codes drive it and check to see which codes re appear. then I'd address which ever codes re-appear

I never did change the apps b/c I could not find anything wrong with it. The surging seems to be getting better for no reason? Now that the surging is getting a little better my fuel mileage is getting a lot worse. This weekend haul a load of straw and grossed around 22k a pretty light load and I used to get around 13-15 mpg. This time I got 9mpg. Truck ran great just drinking the fuel? Even when my edge is set on 0 the truck smokes like a pro stock tractor. And when loaded egt's are probably 100-150 deg. hotter than normal. For some reason I seem to be way over fueling. From all of the reading that I have done I narrowed it down to either my map, iat sensors are bad, or my pump is going bad. Any ideas?

sounds to me like the bigger injectors you just put on are decreasing your fuel economy. i have no idea about the shudder though. Your decreased fuel economy could be due to the hi-flow injectors though.

I thought the same thing but my mpg was down before I put the injectors in. Thats actually the reason I changed the injectors in the first place. Now I have a lot more power but mpg is still bad?

It might, but what would I have to have it set on to have it show up? Right now on the display I have EGT, fuel pressure, and boost. Should I put it on something else?
