Surging Power
Surging Power
Starting yesterday, if I held the speed around 45-50 and cruising easy, running about 1400 RPM's, my engine would surge up just for a second and then go back to cruising. It would continue to do this until I got past 50 and the RPM's got up a bit, then it would stay smooth. My question: is it the VP44 or would it just be the lift pump not priming the injection pump? I am still getting good mileage, about 18.5 TO 19, and it will still get up and go from a dead stop. It also doesn't do it at idle, which really threw me off. Any ideas?
mine does the same thing i have read that it could be a bad apps do a search on apps. i think you need to have a voltage reader for the wires to check them so i need to go get one to check mine. hope this helps
Mine has been doing similar for 2 years. I have changed everything and somethings twice. Apps,map,iat,injectors,Vp44 on and on. Tried every cure on the site. If someone finds the fix a few people will be happy

I reset my APPS and cleared some surging as well as a mild dead spot. The other thing I did that cured a lot of nagging issues (surge, cruise control fluttering, weird power response when accelerating) was to add a second ground to my Comp harness. I spliced a second wire into the ground lead that attaches to the intake horn. I ran wire to the driver's side fender where an existing lead comes directly from the neg terminal on the battery. good dose of dielectric grease on the electrical connections for the MAP and data conector.
Hey All:
I was having the exact problems as described. 45-50 mph 1300 rpm, the rpms would surge 100 to 200 rpm. I had no error codes as well. When checking with a buddy who works parts for Dodge, we talked to a knowledgeable tech. He explained it as this. When the battery teminals are not clean and secure, and you are driving at the described speed/rpm the problem happens at. The alt. in charging the elec system cycles on and off. Without a good connection to the batteries it ends up "over volting" the elec. system. This in turn causes the torque converter to unlock giving an RPM surge. I ended up cleaning and securing the terminals and replacing one that was stripped and would not tighten. Also I cleaned the connectors to the APPS/TPS. Problem solved! I hope this helps anyone having a similar problem.

Surging
My mileage yesterday from Fort Mc Murray to home was 23.8 slightly better going north being down hill. Have the dollarshop do the test ( if they have the parts anymore) they use the DRB as a oscillascope to look at the wave forms at different spots. Have them do this at the bolt in the PDC, and the wires to the vp44. I madeup a harness for the vp and used a scope on mine no wonder the truck is gutless. The waveforms aren't what they should look like. I have a large load drawing the voltage down which affects the input voltage and fuel shut off, and sync pulse. There is a filter that one can buy ( sorry haven't got it here in front of me ( TDR) has it in one of their magazines. It isn't worth it for me to get one now because the 53 block is US so saving my money for a NEW truck .
