stock trans temp sender location???

Hello all, can anyone tell me where the stock trans temp sender is located? I have looked in several books and asked a service guy...all to no avail. Thanks

If you're refering to the temp sensor, it's attached to the transmission valve body.
You need to remove the pan to get to it.

trans gauge on the post

hey firepiper, how did you hook up your temp gauge? did you drill the sender into the pan or is there an easier way? I Just got my 2nd ram 1rst diesel and ordered a pryo, boost, and trans and also a triple pod with speaker for the post. people keep telling me I dont need a temp gauge due to the factory sensor, but I want to see what the temp is doing. if you have any answers let me know thanks.

RattleRam,

I don't recall what the factory idiot sensor is set for, but by then you are way too hot. I have a double deep pan so my sensor is mounted about three inches up at the back of the pan. Really simple install. Whoever you purchase the gauge and sender from should have some instructions for you. Just FYI the warmest I've got is 175 degrees and that is while pulling stumps. Lots of idle waiting for choke setter and back and forth.

Tranny guy at the Dealership told me the tranny temp idiot lite comes on at 280 degrees.

The tranny fluid is almost boiling at that point, and you'd better get to the side of the road while you still can.
(exaggerated for effect, but you get the idea)

My Temp sensor is plumbed into the hot line from the trans to the heat exchanger.
I had temps over 200 in traffic in the summer unloaded with a stock tranny.
I'm curious what temps I'll see with the tighter converter this summer.
Just because your probe is mounted in the coolest part of the fluid circulation, doesn't mean the rest of the trans fluid is at the same temp.
You need to adjust your allowable "Maximum Temp" to your truck and your install.
