Stock 02 with P0216
Stock 02 with P0216
I have a stock 02 24V diesel. I recently got a P0216 code. I had no dead pedal symptoms or reduced power. I had the lift pump replaced with an in-tank replacement. After maybe 25 miles or so I threw another P0216. Again, no symptoms, just the code. Could it be a bad sensor or is the injector pump really going out despite no symptoms of losing power or difficulty starting. Any ideas? I don't want to be stranded, but everyone seems to have symptoms to go with their P0216 codes. Frustrated!

The P0216 code is usually the kiss of death code but who knows. Some pumps die instantly, other's live on for a long time. My buddy rjohnson didn't even realize his VP was bad until he dynoed 100hp less than he should have and couldn't build any boost powerbraking. Truck drove perfect. No noticeable power loss (well, until the dyno), no hard starting. Nothing. I say just drive it and don't worry about it.
This is exactly my situation. I went back to the dealer after they installed the in tank lift pump and showed him the 0216 code and they imediatly set me up to have my vp replaced. Is your truck still within warrenty? they did mine on warranty, only a couple months left. Now I orderd a big line kit from Vulcan, hope to get it hooked up this coming week. This gets rid of all the banjo fittings that are restricting the fuel flow. Hope it works! checkout the thread I started "in tank lift pump" might give you some thoughts on your situation.

tcafan; If you talk to the dealer before you put in the Vulcan kit, ask about it. If it is on before you go in they could say no to warranteeing the VP44. (Just to feel them out, so you don't get blind sided by them.) Otherwise I'd wait till after they install the VP before installing the Vulcan. Just my $.02. Some dealers are nasty that way, so if you can do some talking before hand. (Who knows maybe the dealer you are going to is a good one )
Also take the time to fill out your profile, so we know were you are from, and all the info on your truck. Also Welcome.

That's one of my questions. It seems like the fuel pressure has droped slightly over the past year -originally 15lbs at idle , 10lbs WOT now 12 at idle and 7 or 8 lbs at WOT. I've got about 7k miles or 8 months to go on my warrenty . So replace with the vulcan kit now and save my VP and lose maybe the warrenty or wait and maybe stress out the VP and have it fail after the warrenty?
Decision...
The guy that works on my truck talked with Eric at Vulcan and looks like were putting in a new injection pump this week and a line kit a little bit down the road. I want to be able to do some camping with the remainder of the summer and don't want to be stranded on the side of the road.
The truck is a rebuilt, so the warranty is void and doesn't apply.
Thanks for all the chatter on my topic. Appreciate the input.

Pressures with Stock In Tank Pump
Received the test pressure gauge and line kit from Vulcan. We wanted to get a reading of the in tank pump with banjo fittings, etc. Hooked the pressure gauge up between the filter and the injection pump. Disappointed it ran just over 8 psi at idle and dipped to around 3.5 on hard acceleration going down the road. We're going to install the line kit this week or next weekend and see what type of readings we get. If the line kit doesn't boost the numbers to an acceptable range I don't know what the next step would be.
