steering problems

so i have been having a few steering problems.. i had the truck jacked up and was changing the rotors and brake pads..and to get the 4 bolts of the back to get it off its easier to turn the wheel.. so i turned the wheel all the way to one side and power steering fluid comes screaming out of the cap. now i havent changed fluid level for some time but i always check to make sure its full.. cap maby?? anyways. also the steering itsself has like almost 25% steering wheel travel before the truck responds. now i have tryed to tighten the steering box from that screw on the top of the box.. helped alittle but not nearly enough for any real change. and i didnt want to over tighten so.. should i just buy a new steering box? i have almost 300k on the truck so..

The fluid puke will happen whenever you turn the wheels without the engine running. I believe the sector shaft bearing wears out in these boxes causing sloppy steering. Track bar or ball joints could also be worn.

Get someone to move the wheel while you look at the shaft that your pitman arm is on. It will probly move side to side, meaning that you have a bad bushing. If this is not the case check that the pitman arm moves at the same time as the steering shaft.

Just replaced my steering box with a PSC unit. Also DSS and borgeson steering shaft. Night and day difference now. Very tight front end and can drive with one finger. All steering play is eliminated. Too bad Dodge didn't build these rigs with the steering stabilizer. It locks steering shaft off the pitman with no side play or movement.

What is a PSC steering box unit...where can I get info on this? I just got mine replaced (bad leak on the top of the steering gearbox) with a Cardone unit...low mile stock suspension truck everything else is fine up front.
