Steering Box Problems

I spent a lot of $$ on rebuilding my front end to get all the slop out. My reman box from Napa had play from the beginning now it is like driving a boat. The dealership wants $550.00 for a reman unit. PSC does not make boxes for the 2nd Gen Dodge anymore. Is the dealership worth the $ for a reman unit? Or is ther another option?

Thanks

Did you try adjusting your box? Preload and over center can be adjusted to take up slop. I just had to do that with my PSC unit.

Adjust your box first. Then add a Steering Stabilizer so it stays tight for life of truck.
Stabilizer also inproves steering....even on a new box.
Did mine at 19,000 miles as preventative maintenance...... was very surprised how much difference it made; improved tracking and control.

I tried to adjust the box it's the best it's going to get. I have the BD steering stabilizer and a $400.00 Adjustable track bar.

Thanks

How much do you tighten the box and do you use a torque wrench or just by feel??

Just By Feel. It was tight as I could go with a allen wrench.

yeah, i have the stabalizer brace. just started wondering all over a few months ago, so i put a complete lukes link system on. already had a lukes link on the track bar but the bushing end was loose so i put in new poly. everything was tight yet still wondered. PSC steerin box needed adjusted. what seemed to me to make more difference was adjusting the preload. Gotta take the steering arm off from the steering wheel end. easy...1 bolt pull it off and slide it out of way. Then break loose the big lock ring lock thing and take it off. Then need a spanner wrench, which i did not have so I made a custom one with two allen wrenches. Cut the ends down so they were only about 1/8 long. used my old original gearbox to set the width on the allen wrenches and welded them together. Then ran the preload all the way down. back it back off something like .250 i think. i don't remember off hand how much but do a search and you should find it. I also adjusted the over center like you did. Took a while of playing to get everything to where it felt just right. Right now it seems perfect.

Adjusted over center some more got the play out but steering seems a little tight. What is the correct and best way to adjust the box.
Thanks again
