Starter problems
Starter problems
I have a 2000 ctd and i have replaced the contacts in the starter, it was wroking great and now it wont start sometimes. the starter turns but it seeps as if it is not catching the gear to turn the motor over. is it the gears or has the starter gone bad, any advice would be appreciated. thanks
i'll double check the snuggness of them bolts... it was working fine for about 3 weeks so i dont think it is the contacts. also a while back when i started it, the starter hit pretty hard when it started... is it possible that i could have a broken tooth on them gears??? thank you for the info.
Make sure the starter is bolted tight.
I put new contacts on mine in the fall. I was putting a new fuel filter a few months later and I notice the starter looks weird.
Yeah, the thing was hanging by the cables! 1 bolt was gone and the other two where about to fall out too. I had no idea how it was even cranking the truck without noise.
The same thing happened to my steering pump when I replaced that
I have learned to use plenty of loc tite.
Darn truck is worse than a Harley!
