dana 80?'s

I've found that I have a 1 tire fire going on outback with my dana 80, and I did a search on here and didnt find anything conclusive about a diff or locker for it, what are my options guys?

The best general purpose is supposed to be a older PowrLok modified (holes enlarged) to fit the 80.

One of the few things I have left to do to mine.

What should I do? I have a limited slip but still it's spinning only one tire at the time, let's say, like in tight turns?

Sounds like you need to add some friction modifier.
An ounce at a time until it hooks up.

Pop the axles out and take the pot off take the two 4 carrier bearing bolts out and your carrier should come out then jsut take it apart and rearange the clutches in them so there's being more surface area applied, you wont have one tire fire then, but you might have a little chatter going slow and turning if not it should be sort of like a spool

Friction modifier sounds a whole lot easier LOL. That's all my Cherokee needed. Seems the OE stuff loses it's properties over time.

Ok thanks!

I'll try friction modifier first, I just changed all the fluids,diffs,trans,nv241hd,engine and filters.

But still, it was the same kind of with the old oils in it too.

Do you guys have any suggestions what friction modifier should I buy?

And is re arranging the clutches normal, so that I dont break anything?

Thanks.

Friction modifier will make is WORSE, not better. Friction modifier ADDS slippage to the clutches in a clutch type LSD.

I also have a D80, so I've researched some options. If you have 4.10 gears or are willing to install them, then you can get a Detroit Locker. I wouldn't recommend the Detroit though-- bad manners and can be dangerous under certain conditions.

The Powr-lok (which some trucks got factory!) is the best all around. It's no longer made for the D80, because in a lot of D80 applications, the cross pins were working loose and would fall out, causing catastrophic failure. You can use a D70HD powr-lok if you have the holes modified (enlarged or slotted) to mate to the D80's larger ring gear.

The final option is a Detriot Truetrac. This is a clutchless helical limited slip differential. Randy's has them in stock. This is a torque biasing diff, though-- it cannot transmit tq to one wheel when the other has ZERO traction (zero times anything is zero).

ARB makes a unit for the rear, but that seems like a pain.

what gear options are there in the dana 80's from the factory? with the 38's on my truck it really wouldnt hurt going to 4:10's if I dont allready have them, I had a locker in my k5 blazer and I never had a problem with that, so thats probably what I'll go with, thanks guys

All factory D80s are 3.55 or 4.10.

I think you can get 4.30s for the D80s, but not for the 60 up front, hence I think the next step is 4.56, which is a lot of gear, but should work well with 38s.

Open the hood instead. Both of my CTD's have had it listed on the data plate on the hood.
