Is this a starter problem?

When I tried to start my truck I would get just a click sound from the starter whenever I engaged the key, but it wouldn't turn over. If I kept turning the key on and off it would finally turn over and start.

This would happen sporadically until yesterday morning. The starter clicks, but it won't turn over.

I thought it was the stick shift lever not making contact while in park so I would lift it but that dosen't seem to help at this point.

The battery is about 10 months old and was receiving a charge while driving.

I don't have any codes.

I'm thinking it's the starter.

Any help will be grateful.

Sounds exactly like the symptoms I had last week. I replaced the starter on Friday and all is well.

I cleaned the battery terminals and the starter contacts first, but it only gave me another day or two before it wouldn't start at all.

No, There Are A Set Of Copper Contacts (bushings) In The Starter That Frequently Wear Out.
Easy Change--cheap

http://www.sherco-auto.com/contacts.htm If i remember correctly the bolt is 10 mm and u need the #sc3412 contacts...should take no more then 45mins to pull starter, change contacts, replace starter. u just need long arms for the upper starter bolt.

Tap the starter with a hammer while someone tries to start it, if it starts then you need the contacts.
