stalled while *driving*
I've had random hard starts, whether the truck has been sitting or I just put fuel in it, for a week or two. So last night I'm driving home, after a hard start at the gas station, and it stutters and keeps going. A couple miles more, it stalls while I'm driving it. I drop it back into 5th and let it spin until it starts up again. Fuel pressure was never below 14psi. I drove the rest of the way home without incident. I checked my codes and I keep getting the 'fuel level high', code along with the 1693 companion code. I also had a 1689 and one other I can't remember.
please tell me this isn't the vp44 and it's something else.

I will be the first.
Yes, sounds like it could be VP related. The companion code might be indicating a P0216 yet to be seen (need reader).
Wouldn't be the first time one died with more than adequate FP, that is for sure.
How many miles?

I have scanner software and an adapter for my laptop. It's thrown 1689, 1693, the fuel sensor level one (can't remember the #) and overboost. Lately it's come to throwing 1689's only.
a 1689 is - No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module. Sooooo...it's looking more like the IP.

Good to hear. A failed or slowly failing VP-4 can cause a host of symptoms. What is important to think about is someday it would have left you stranded, dead in the water. You have avoided that.
Keep an eye on that pressure.
