Silencer Ring?

I just read another thread about the pros and cons of taking out a silencer ring. From what I read I really like the pros. I love to hear the the whistle and in my personal opinion there is no such thing as too much whistle. Anyways, where exactly is the silencer ring and how hard is it to take out. Is it for or aft of the turbo and so on?

Disconnect your air intake connection from the turbo and you will be looking right at it, you can remove it by prying it out with a flat head and if you wind up wanting to put it back in later you can just pop it back in. Relatively easy job and should not take you long at all.

As far as the cons, I have never heard of a con. It is there just to silence the whistle of the turbo.

It's just a little snap ring that sits inside of the turbo inlet. It's black, and only about 3/16" of an inch in height (not diameter mind you). Pretty easy to overlook if you don't really know what to look for.

If your turbo looks like this (the 3 sections) then the silencer ring IS removed.

This is the first time ive ever seen the inside of my turbo but I looked on google images last night to get a better idea of what I was doing before I did it and ya, its gone. Thanks for the picture though i apreciate the help. The previous owner of my truck had straight piped it so I wouldnt be suprised if he or she had taken out the silencer ring too.

the Silencer ring was added from Chrysler to the Holset turbo in our dodge rams due to limit the turbo whistle; only for this reason, you can remove it without no problem, no more power or no less, only if you like the WHISTLE!!!

Wonder if the silencer ring affects fuel economy. The whistle sound is caused by air turbulence and he silencer ring helps direct the flow of air into the turbo; hence, no whistle.

I would think that having the ring in place would improve economy. The same way those "tornado" intakes that you see on TV are supposed to work.

it's a Chrysler add on, no one turbo come with it from the factory; i don't think this silencer is a mileage improver...

For the purists who are concerned with inlet turbulence manifested as a whistle, there might be a 0.01% change in mileage but I would doubt it is perceivable. I am willing to bet that any rapid acceleration with the truck will negate any fuel mileage difference that may be caused by having a silencer ring.
