Question Silence ring is it Safe to remove

I no this has been brought up many times but I've never got a complete answer besides it might void the warranty

It is perfectly safe to remove it. You won't miss it when it's gone

Took mine out years ago. It was more trouble than it was worth.

A dealer would have a big stick shoved somewhere if they tried to void a warranty over a silencer ring. For most of the big warranty work(i.e. lift pump, injection pump), they have no reason to even remove the air box.

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone ever dynoed before and after? I can only see it as plus to have it, as it could be something similar to a velocity stack???

Silence of the Rams (not)

About the only way removing the silencer ring will hurt anything is if you left the small screwdriver it takes to pop out the retaining ring in there. That might make a noise that you will never forget (especially your pocketbook when ya buy a new LARGER turbo )

Have not dynoed but I know turbos bark less with out the ring. At least the two upgrades I've had do.

It was put in by Dodge... not Holsett... as noise control. All Mfg's make turbos with the by pass channels. I believe it keeps the air flow LESS turbulant due to no restriction.... a good thing, IMO.

Holset has since changed its page, but it had a document out there that talked about the silencer ring a few years back. It stated that it was put in there at the request of Chrysler. Its function is purely to lower the turbo whistle and there are no performance gains by removing it.

I think the whistle is cool. I wish there was a little more whoosh sound to it as well. IMHO its just a novel 3 minute mod that allows you to hear a little more. Something to say, "Hey!! Look at the boost gauge!".

Its like having one of those cast iron griddle steaks. Sometimes the sizzle makes the steak that much more enjoyable...
