My '01.5 is coming off the road to be a full time pulling truck and I have a few options. My thoughts are swapping the 6-speed into my '92 and having a much better tranny for towing/bombing and putting a reverser in the pulling truck. I have most of the parts gathered up to do this. The other option is just sale the NV5600 and get the reverser and leave my '92 alone. The 6-speed might need a 4th gear snycro because it started grinding alittle right before I took the truck off the road, but it's hard to tell because my dual disk clutch broke on it's last run down the road which may have been the cause of the grinding. Shouldn't be that hard to fix if it needs it at all. Maybe I should put it in the '92

What do you guys think?

 

Swapping the 5600 into a 1st gen might be a can of worms because the frame rails and such are so different. You'd probably need a custom crossmember.

I'd avoid trying that particular swap. Just sell the 5600.

 

I don't know what would be involved in swapping in a 6 speed to a 1st gen, but there is at least one guy that has one on the 1st gen boards here that has a 6 speed in his. Try posting the question there and see what kind of response you get.

And if you decide the sell it I know I'd be interested in it.

 

I'm sure it's been done, just not sure I want to get into this swap while I'm already building my other truck. Maybe I'll just keep running the Getrag and sell the NV5600.
