Rreplaced VP44, truck won't start

I just replaced the VP44, and primed the whole system. I get into the truck (New batteries), and start cranking. It cranks fine, and seems to want to sputter, but will not start. I am blowing a lot of black smoke out of the pipe. What can be the problem. I have not driven the truck in over a month (blwon tranny). I replaced the tranny at the same time as the injections pump. Do Ihave to air bleed the system? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks
Dima

Yes, you have to bleed the air out of the fuel system. Assuming you are getting fuel to the IP, this what we do. Loosen the #1, #3 and #5 injector lines. Crank the engine until you get fuel at #5 and tighten it down... Do the same for #3 and #1 and the truck should start... it works best with 2 people, one in the truck cranking and one under the hood wrenching. I've done it by myself before too.

Yep, you need a minumum of 3 cylinders purged and firing to be able to start the engine. It will run rough until the other injector lines are purged and firing as well.
