99 ram, abs and brake light went on and speedo stopped working. Replaced sensor and seem to be back in business except for check engine light. How do I shut it off? Tried to disconnect battery but didnt work. Do I need to buy some type of code reader? thanks ed
If you don't actually have an engine problem it will go out on it's own after a certain number of shutoffs.
Do a search for "key trick" to find a way to get the code, as well as clear the light. I don't remember how to do it 'cause I have a scanner. Any OBD2 (OBDII) scanner will read and clear the engine codes. Harbor Freight carries scanners for stoopid cheap. I think I paid $30 or something for mine.

Correct.
Either get your hands on a scan tool of some sort and check out what code it is/clear it. Or depending on what time of code was set (and nothing is actually wrong) it will clear itself after so many shut offs/starts. I think the number is 3 times but i could be wrong.

The key trick does not work with 99's. You need a scan tool. In my opinion, if you have an auto parts store nearby, and aren't a mechanic, don't spend money on a scan tool. Yes, they're handy, but it takes nothing to use the auto part store's loaner tool.
On trying to pull the batts, did you disconnect both negatives for 5 min. or so? That should "always" reset the check engine light. If it's still there, I'd say there is something else it's trying to tell you.
