Replacing heat shield on underneath side of hood?

Where do I find and how do I replace my buddies 2000 heat shield on the underneath side of his hood. Does it need to have one? His is torn up pretty good.
thanks Jamie

Well what ever that cloth looking thing that's attached to the hood that always falls to pieces after a few years.

They don't all seem to have them. I think it's a sound shield more than anything, but still I'd replace mine if it needed it (if it didn't cost a fortune).

Yeah I knew of it but didn't think the 2000 hood and 2003 hood were the same but reading about that product it looks like it can be cut however it's needed.
thanks Jamie

2001.5 and up didn't have them -- cost reduction measure. We lost the rear seat cupholders, too. My 2001 V-10 had the underhood pad, the cupholders, and rear wheelwell liners. My buddy's 2001.5 lost all of those. My 2001.5 has the wheel well liners, but I don't know if they came stock or not. I must say, losing those items and gaining rear wheel disk brakes is actually an OK trade, in my book!! (except for the wheelwell liners -- they are mandatory on a pickup, IMHO!!)

I had one in my truck and it was falling apart. I took it out probably a year ago and haven't noticed any difference in sound. They did phase them out sometime in 01-02. My brother's 02 didn't come with one.

All of these items appear to be totally random as whether a truck has them or not. I've not the hood liner, rear cup holders, no rear fender liners on my '01.5. Know some '02 that have some, all, or none of these items as well.

I think they phased them out as they ran out at the various assembly plants.

Some plants ran out sooner, probably due to industrious employees thinking future Ebay sales.
