replacing cracked block

I am buying a 2001 from a buddy with a cracked 53 block for a great deal. I got a short block sitting here ready to drop in. My main question is: i want the darn IP to last so i want to change out the lift pump. I am keeping it as a stock fueled truck. So would a holley blue pump be big enough for do i need something bigger. I am new to the electronic world as my 1st gen didnt have any. .

You may also consider looking into changing the cam in the shortblock and going to a mechanical lift pump setup like a 12 valve. You could also use a cheap electric pump for easy priming when needed (fuel filter change, etc.). It's hard to beat the mechanical pumps for reliability. For electric pump reliability, I think I would stay away from the holley. It is not designed for diesel and is less than a stellar performer even on gas. I have one on mine as an emergency backup if my FASS were to die out on the road but have not needed it yet. I think FASS or Airdog are the way to go for electric pump reliability....maybe a bit more expensive but VERY reliable and better filtration.

With the cam and 12V setup you do not need any other pumps. I am running this setup and have been for years.

Priming is NOT a problem with this setup! I don't even have to crack injector lines after an injector swap!

What psi does the 2nd gen piston pump put out? Will it be enough for a stock truck and eventually a programmer?
