Replaced lift pump..do I need to remove stock pump??
I replaced the stock lift pump with a Walbro unit on the frame. It goes directly to the fuel filter and doesn't connect to the stock filter at all. Do I need to remove the old filter for any reason?? Thanks
Did you eliminate the filter canister by using a different filter assembly?
The little filter that comes with the Walbro kit is supposed to go between the tank and the pump and act as a prefilter for to protect the Walbro pump.
Then the stock filter element removes the smaller particles before they get to the injection pump.
Or are you talking about just bypassing the old lift pump?

On a 2002 you only loose the water in fuel sensor by by-passing the stock filter. On older units( with the cast aluminum screw on top, as opposed to the bakelite top.) you also loose a fuel heater. But as to your question on the lift pump, if you put in the walbro, then it would free up a lot of room in there to get rid of the carter pump.
Thanks for the replies everyone. The way I have it set up is with the filter from Walbro between the tank and the pump, then the hose running to the stock filter, then to the VP44. I left the old pump mounted (saw no reason to move it) My reason for asking is that I am seeing an average of about 16-17 mpg driving around, and I wanted to make sure that nothing was leaking as I was driving (silly thought the more I think of it) but you guys are the experts. Guess driving a dually with 4.10's doesn't really help much...
