Rear transfer case output seal-cant find replacement.

I have been looking for a new rear output seal for my transfer case at the parts stores but I cant find one. I keep running into the same thing. They all say that there is only one part number and thats the only seal the books show for that transfer case, but its the WRONG one. Cost was around $10-$15. So I go over the the Dodge parts counter and asked. He shows me what he said is the two versions that came in that truck. Ones bigger and one is smaller. Funny thing is that he claims there is no way to differ from the two by part #, only by checking the existing part to be replaced. Thats strange but great anyway! Thats the seal I need but he wants $55! WOW thats a huge difference. So I go home and keep tring to locate one from a parts store but so far no luck. Man I dont want to spend $40 more than I have to. Has anyone got one from a local parts store that fit?

I have had trouble finding seals for these trucks in the past, there does seem to be three different possibilities. I have always gone to Dodge for these, unless I get an overhaul kit. (Quality Gear, I think.)

Well, based on how modern vehicles are designed, I say that they want you to replace the whole transfer case when a seal leaks

I've had the same problem with part stores with my truck because it's the 11000 rated truck that doesn't show up in the parts books most of the time. I am assuming you are talking about the rear output going to the rear drive shaft. look at the seal(you can see the numbers while still in the case) in really fine marks there will be two sets of numbers, one of which will end in a dash and a letter (#-j) this is not the one you need. the other set of numbers is it. mine were 4741920, the 4741 is the seal number which is the larger seal for the 241HD. advance auto parts BCA seal 4741. I had to scrape off some of the paint to make the numbers out and a real bright light, hope this helps

For anyone wondering that number 4741 is a "National" seal brand. Very hard to find, everyone had to order one if they could even find it, so I just went to the dealer. Hate to spend the money but I atleast know its the right one.

4741 National corresponds to NAPA 4741, or CR 22029

Not sure if this helps at all, but these are the numbers i have come up with
