Rear main seal

In the middle of replacing my clutch and thought it would be wise to replace the rear main seal while I have everything apart. I have no desire to go through all this again.....

Does anyone know where the best place to get a seal is? I've heard there are many upgrades to this seal in order to combat leaks so I'm looking for the best source.

Can't you head down to San Diego and find a seal at the waterfront? I know there were lots when I was last in San Francisco.....

Is that a Canadian joke? Besides, San Diego and SF are about 8 hours apart. And I'm hours north of SF too.

Honestly, if your stock one has done fine, then replace it with a stock one. Most of the seal failures you see are a direct result of improper installation.

I have not known cummins rear seals to be much of an issue. Yes, they do fail, but so do everyone else's.

Doing this while youre in there is an excellent game plan. I do them every time I'm in the clutch housing, unless I know for a fact that the existing seal is almost new.

I'd get one from Cummins or the dealer. The quality of "parts store" parts varies too much anymore to suite me. As you said, "I have no desire to go through all this again".
