Rear End question? Replace or rebuild?
Rear End question? Replace or rebuild?
I have a 99 Dodge, 2500,4x4, shorty with 210k miles, I think my rear diff is going out, its got a ton of sloop when shifting into drive or park, like a couple of inches in the driveline. I had the u-joints replaced some 200 miles ago, so I pretty sure it's not them. Now I haven't have any mechanic look at it or diagnose the issue yet, so I'm looking at worst case senerio. To buy a new or used rear axle/diff from salvage or have this one rebuilt. I don't have the time or experience to rebuild it myself.
So can i have some suggestions, comments, feedback, pluses or minuses, the good bad and ugly on the whole deal? Thanks

Your pinion bearing is gone out. I had my diff rebuilt a few months ago for 1100 bucks. They replaced all the clutches and bearings and set the whole thing back up.
I've heard you can just do the pinion bearing, but with that many miles I would just rebuild it and forget it. Mine had 175000 miles on it.
