radiator stop leak

I was discussing my very slight coolant leak (from the housing on pass. side of block where the lower radiator hose attaches) with an associate tonight and he told me to go buy some sort of walnut shell kit to put in the radiator to stop the leak. He went on to say that some of the newer GM rebuilds won't honor any kind of warranty unless you DO put this in the coolant system. How many of you have heard this? He said I can buy the kit at NAPA. Should I try this, or should I just pull the housing and apply some silicine or do whatever I need to actually fix the leak?

Take another look it could be leaking from the waterpump telltale hole and running down, Before using any "sealers" that are added to the coolant, try fixing it properly first.

again its more than likely a leaky water pump

I dont know anything about the warranty deal, but I do know that that stuff works pretty darn good. We have a boat with twin 454s each with heat-exchangers so the boat could be ran in saltwater. Anyways we had a crack inside one of the cooling systems and sometimes when the engine came to temp it would open up the crack and all the coolant woud go out the exhaust water. We didnt want to get into a project like that in the middle of the season so we put stop leak in it and it held great all the way to the winter. So well we almost considered not even fixing it. But I agree it isnt the "right" way to do it but it sure as hech works.

I'd be cautious to use something like that on any of my cars. What if it blocks passage, etc. Could cost thousands later on rather than fixing problem.
