Question Question...

What is the name of the pump located directly adjacent to the IP? I have heard it refered to as the "lift pump" and as a "primer pump". Since I am not a mechanic, I am confused. IS this the the lift pump? With the filter bowl open, the key on, the bowl does not fill. Do I have another pump somewhere? I do know that I do not have a pump in the tank. So is this pump what is called the lift pump? Thanks!

You are correct. When you first turn the key on do you hear the pump buzzing at all? It should pump some fuel into the filter bowl. Check the plug that goes into the pump for power, (if none, check your fuses)

So, that is the lift pump? Power is fine, relay is fine. If no fuel is pumped in the bowl, I have a bad lift pump?

Sounds like it. The dealer will install a new pump in the tank, which is a bad idea. Driving your truck w/o an inoperable lp is not recommended as you may damage the vp44, if you haven't already. You can get a new lp for under $200 or put an aftermarket one on the frame back by the fuel tank. Search lift pumps and you'll see a lot of options, Kurt

I have the IP replaced about 60K miles ago...I will replace the pump ASAP. I am really limited on tech knowledge around here...Even the local Dodge house has issues. I get code 0320, which is primary crkt failure. Was just curious as to why the local Dodge house calls it a "primer pump" instead of a lift pump??

Only thing I can think of why they'd call it that is cause basically it primes the system. When ya turn the key on it runs and gets fuel to the IP so it isn't dry firing, then supplies fuel while the truck is running, IP isn't self priming

If your filter bowl is empty because you changed the filter the lift pump will not fill it just by turning the key on. That only makes it pump for about a second. To make it fill the bowl up you need to turn key on and then just bump the key to start position so the starter barely engages. Leave key in the on position and listen for your lift pump buzzing. It should pump for about 10 seconds. Repeat this untill bowl is filled then you might have to open the feed line banjo fitting at the inj. pump and bump the starter again untill you see straight fuel running out. close fitting. Now try to start it and if it doesn't start after 10 seconds of cranking then you'll have to open a couple injector lines and crank it for 5-10 seconds to bleed out the air. Close them and it should flash up.

Again, thank everyone for help...The truck starts, runs, etc. I am not driving it right now. I will be changing the pump next Saturday. I was just confused by that being called a LP. I don't know if my 02 has a pump anywhere else. I only know of the 2 pumps I can see...The primer pump ( or whatever it is called) and the IP. I was told that when they changed the IP, Dodge should have installed the LP in the tank. Since they did not, now they want 900 to do it...I have been told many times to leave it on the block. Opinions?

Thoughts are varied on relocating the lp. I am going to relocate mine closer to the fuel tank as finances allow. The idea here is that pumps push liquid better than they pull them, so the closer to the source the better. Plus it doesn't get the constant vibration of the engine. There are some nice relocation kits w/ a damped mount for a stock lp. I also would relocate it becasue its easier to change out when it goes bad. Kurt

Even though my LP was still good, I replaced it anyways, went with a fass hplp. It was expensive, but I don't want issues and I've "heard" that walbro's don't like the cold temps. Saturday was -36C (without the wind, its warmer that way) and I had 10.5 psi at WOT, 14 at idle.

Just my .02
