Pulling Motor To Replace Oil Pan Gasket??
Pulling Motor To Replace Oil Pan Gasket??
Hey all. A buddy of mine has a 2000 Cummins with the NV4500. His clutch just went out so he has the tranny out, and is waiting for the clutch to arrive. But his front cover also has a pretty good sized oil leak. He is going to replace that while the truck is DOA but he was saying that he might need to replace the oil pan gasket as well and that he would have to pull the motor to do so. Is this correct? I know of a diesel shop locally that took a Dodge Cummins down to the bare block with it still in the frame, so I think he should be able to replace the oil pan gasket. Thanks in advance.

Is it a 4x4? If it is I changed one once on a Ford by unbolting a motor mount and jacking the motor up at an angle. Tight quarters but didn't have to unhook everything.
to change the oil pan gasket you remove the trans and everthing hooked to the back of the trans remove the adapter plate off of the back of the motor and then remove the pan. about 7 to 11 hours of work thats thru alldata.

Had the pan off mine a few weeks ago to put a screw back into the tone ring. Did not want to remove everything from the back of the engin. Used the sawsall to remove that little crossmember and then modified it to bolt up. Seems to be a good repair. 61 bucks for the new pan gasket so I used the old one and it sealed up fine with RTV.
