Puke bottle relocate

Well guys after about 6 years I finally decided to relocate the puke bottle.
I should've done this one when I first got the truck since it makes such a mess..

I ran a piece of 3/4" fuel hose off the factory hose, coupled with a 1/2" by 2" threaded coupler ( zip tied at each side). I then ran it down along the oil pan and ended it under the starter. The hose is open at the end.

My question is this. Will it drop oil out of the end of the hose in any great amount? The bottle was never full and mostly had water in it when I changed my oil.

Thanks, Kurt

It may drop a drip every once in awhile, but its hardly anything. Just make sure that the hose length you added has no dips or droops that could allow the oil to puddle and possibly block the flow of air otherwise you could blow a seal.

Sweet! That was my goal, as the bottle has led to a lot of oil on the driveway lately. I cleaned the entire front of the engine because I thought I may have a leaking vac pump seal, but all is still clean after a few days worth of driving with the Puke bottle removed.

I ran it off the hooked hose and down along the oil pan/battery cable and attached it to the trans with a zip tie. Its one smooth bend so I think I'm good.

Thanks!

You're actually a little better off to run the hose up along the drivers sdie of the valve cover towards the back of the engine and then down towards the frame. This will still vent the vapors, but any oil that condenses will naturally flow downhill back towards the crank case instead of towards the bottle. If you route it this way you won't even need a bottle and it should not drip any oil, unless you've got problems with blow by. Most guys use PVC hose to keep it tucked up by the valve cover and then paint it black so you can't see it.

As for the water, as long as you're letting the truck get up to operating temp (you should be doing that anyways, as short trips are hard on diesels) all the water vapors in the crank case will be evaporated off. You most likely got water in your puke bottle because you made some short trips without letting the engine get up to full temp for a long enough period to burn off the water.

I have only been getting a drop or two of oil on the driveway if I park it uphill, otherwise no drips!

Yeah I get mostly <10 mile trips on average, but my rad blocker gets her up to temps pretty quick in the winter time so I'm not too worried about that.

I simply extended the hose to the outside of the frame rail where my bottle is now mounted.

Thats a good idea, I saw a conicle shaped screened filter somewhere on here that breathes and catches the oil.
