Problem: Starter Solenoid fuse blowing
Problem: Starter Solenoid fuse blowing
Hey all....I am having a problem with my truck (2000 model 2500 4x2) blowing the 20 amp starter sol fuse under the hood. The truck is priming properly and as soon as I hit the switch to crank, the fuse blows. I have changed the relay and that isn't the problem. My thought was either the ignition switch or the starter but the switch seems to be working. Has anyone experienced this and do you think I can just change the starter and fix this issue? Thanks in advance for any help.
you probably don't need a whole starter. when the solenoid contacts wear down it causes a short to the case of the started blowing the solenoid fuse. upgraded contact kits can be had for 20-30 bucks. i did it and it works.

Some have had trouble doing the repair was suggest for replace. If you are not electrically challenged, then try. carefully.... 12 point 10 MM wrench required for starter removal. Straight forward otherwise. Parts at local starter alternator repair shop.
I had read, somewhere on this site, about someone having starter problems. Getting a click when turning the key and the fuse blowing each time. I followed the comments posted and Viola!
I just changed my starter today. Turns out that is was the Solenoid contacts. I replaced them for $22.50 . I got the kit from LarryB's.com. The dealership wanted $700.+ to replace everything.
